Cost made before start

If you are going to set up a business, you need to register it with the Chamber of Commerce and The Dutch Tax Authorities. You might already have started to incur certain costs, for example by creating your own website or doing research into your potential market.

Before your business is registered, you may already be incurring business expenses. Of course, you have to keep track of what you have incurred these costs for. You also have to make it demonstrate that these costs are relevant to your (future) business. If so, you may already deduct these costs from the VAT and income tax, under certain conditions.

Financial Administration

To later deduct these costs from your income or profit, it is important to start setting up a simple financial administration with the financial tools of Gekko from the start. Create an account with Gekko and you can start scanning your first receipts within minutes. And you can scan your receipts for free as well.

Read more about costs in the start-up phase on the website of De Belastingdienst (in Dutch). If you are unsure whether certain costs are eligible to be deducted, we advise you to contact a bookkeeper or accountant.
